about the artist
Daria Shipukhina, a Moscow-born artist now based in Walthamstow, works in mixed media to explore the dialogue between material and landscape. Using unconventional substances such as kaolin and plaster of Paris, she creates tactile compositions rich with texture and line. Her minimalist approach distils the essence of a place, focusing on rhythm, form, and atmosphere rather than literal depiction. By paring away detail, Daria invites the viewer to feel rather than see the landscape – to experience it as memory or sensation suspended in time.
the story
Inspired by Walthamstow’s iconic God’s Own Junkyard, Daria reimagines florals through the pulse of neon light. ‘Neon Bunch’ glows with bold, electric hues – blossoms transformed into radiant signs of urban beauty. The work captures a luminous tension between nature and artifice, where fragility meets fluorescence. Colour becomes energy here, flickering between stillness and spectacle. In this vivid collision of the organic and the electric, Daria reminds us that even the softest forms can burn brightly.
