the artist
Astrid Chesney’s paintings are intimate reflections of mood and memory, layered with the quiet lyricism of her emotional world. Working in an abstract, expressive style, she explores the themes of love, hope, and joy through colour and gesture. Each piece feels like a meditation on connection and renewal, where the personal and universal merge. A long-time resident of Walthamstow, Astrid’s art carries the pulse of the place – Its warmth, community, and creative energy. Her works in this exhibition channel that vibrancy, capturing fleeting moments of joy and the beauty of life in motion.
the story
‘Rain Face’ draws inspiration from the spirit of Walthamstow’s green spaces – the shimmer of water at the Wetlands, the quiet of the marshes, the reflective calm of Hollow Ponds. In this work, Astrid channels those landscapes through a folkloric lens, blending the natural and the human. The face becomes both mask and mirror – a presence shaped by rain, myth, and memory. Like the places that inspired it, the painting feels alive with atmosphere, its colours breathing gently with the rhythm of water.
