the artist
Rachel’s work draws inspiration from both land and seascapes. She is always seeking to capture the atmosphere she experiences while walking through the hills of the Peak District or along the windswept beaches of the Llŷn Peninsula in North Wales. Having spent countless hours in these landscapes, they remain a constant and deeply personal source of inspiration in her practice.
the story
Rachel has long held a deep affection for the Peak District, returning often with her family for slow walks across its wide, open hills. This landscape - familiar, grounding and quietly magical - forms the heart of ‘Peak Summer I’, her visual love letter to a place that continues to shape her sense of calm and belonging.
Living not far from the rolling hills, she often heads there in the evenings, when the sun sits low and the light turns soft and almost watery, casting everything in a quiet golden haze. In those moments, the landscape feels suspended in stillness - gentle, spacious and deeply calming. It is this atmosphere of warmth, memory and quiet connection that Rachel tried to capture in this artwork.
