the studio

underway studio is an illustration and printmaking collective based in brixton, south london. founded in 2015, the four members of underway studio work collaboratively on design projects using silk-screen print as a primary medium. print designs are passed between the collective until they are finalised and ready to be screen printed. as a result, the artworks have an impression from each artist creating a unique aesthetic . much of underway studio's work is influenced by architecture, form, texture and colour. Using physical print processes means their visual language is both playful and distinctive, incorporating photography, collage, drawing and embracing any happy accidents along the way.

the story

the wetland’s iconic engine house is reimagined in these unique original prints. overlayed with contemporary swathes of bright colour. woven with pattern and creative mark-making – each of these have their own life and aesthetic.

underway studio’s collection of monoprints explores the creativity of making one-off prints which isn’t often common within printmaking. designs are produced by layering textures, shapes, colours and photographs in completely unique compositions. compositions are completely bespoke and are created in the moment rather than being designed in advance, as is normally the case with screen print. the collection on here features imagery of iconic buildings from the local walthamstow area.
