Matt's work represents mis-remembered memories of places he's visited. Instead of the physical representation of the place, he tries to capture the emotions of being there. Though abstract in their nature, his memoryscapes have the power to trigger memories of our own journeys near and far.

Matt often describes his work as “misremembered memories” – landscapes not tied to a specific place but shaped by how time alters what we recall. In his New Day series, however, he shifts his gaze forward. The almost-rising sun hints at a day just beginning, inviting us to pause, pay attention, and hold onto a small moment of possibility. These works suggest that tomorrow’s memories start here – in the quiet noticing of what a new day has to offer.
