the artist
Sarah is a local Hackney based artist inspired by her walks around the Hackney and Walthamstow Marshes. Her paintings document paths taken and colours emerging over the changing seasons. Balancing fine painterly detail with loose gestural mark-making, Sarah enjoys exaggerating her colour palette and infusing her source images with vibrancy and energy - bringing a fresh approach to contemporary landscape painting.
the story
In Turning Leaves, bold acrylic mark-making evokes the restless energy of autumn in transition. Painted with expressive looseness, the scene abandons sharp edges and fine detail, inviting the viewer to imagine the subtle movement and shifting nature of the landscape. Vibrant bursts of lime green and mustard yellow animate the composition and layered, opaque outlines of slender trees, fragile yet towering, sway gently in the distance. Delicate twigs stretch across the canvas, seemingly on the verge of breaking, yet every element holds together in perfect visual harmony. Sarah captures the quiet drama of seasonal change with texture, colour and a sense of breath held between moments.
