the artist

rachel brings a feather light touch to her paintings and monoprints, summoning an atmospheric, ethereal beauty which is rooted in her experiences of the natural world. based between cheshire and a studio in manchester, much of rachel’s inspiration comes from her local landscape, the peak district and the coast of the llyn peninsular. she captures a sense of time and place by exploring texture, light, movement and form. her creative process is organic and experimental as she layers and manipulates paint and ink on the surface, often yielding unique and unexpected results which become intrinsic to the final artwork.

the story

nestled amongst the overhanging trees and undisturbed wildlife of epping forest, you will discover blackweir pond, or more affectionately known as ‘the lost pond’. this picturesque moment in time, was originally a humble gravel pit. the gravel found there is a remanence of glacial moraine, each piece left behind by a melting glacier which surrounded epping forest during the coldest part of the ice age.

through layers of screen-printing and hand painted detail, rachel perfectly captures the atmosphere of this local treasure trove. abundant with reflections of the silver branches over the water’s edge and the frosted teals of a crisp early morning, ‘lost dawn’ is a moment of wonder and curiosity. what new things will be learnt from this new day and which hidden places will be found?
