the artist

bella is a highly experimental artist who finds beauty and possibility in the forms of mundane and forgotten objects. she works in an east london studio and has previously lived on a houseboat with her family, travelling the waterways of london and beyond. bella continually finds inspiration as she travels and draws elements of the landscape into her contemporary works.

the story

this unique mirror features imagery inspired by the plant life at walthamstow marshes, close to where bella used to reside with her family on a houseboat. it is a special piece to the artist, the title referencing the famous talking heads song and carrying strong memories that tie back to the birth of her daughter.

about the artwork

‘this must be the place’ is a reclaimed mirror embellished using candle-smoke and ink on paper to create a striking and ethereal piece which functions both as a unique piece of art and a functional mirror. the mirror is 71 x 46.2 x 1.7 cm and is strung ready to be hung straight on the wall.
