the artist

Bethany is an English artist currently living and working in Wiltshire. Bethany builds up layers using paint and drawing until a rich texture evolves with a beautiful history of addition and subtraction. The piece takes on many forms and has a great many faces until a design emerges and a refining process begins. This reduction of elements is both bold and considered, both radical and cautious. Eventually the composition settles and final adjustments complete the piece. Bethany’s work is often a reflection of the experience of landscape and she spends much time immersed in the natural environment that so inspires her.

the sound

Bethany says: “This painting speaks to a sense of connection - a quiet kinship with the Earth and the places that hold us. For me, Erik Satie’s ‘Gymnopédie No. 1’ captures that feeling perfectly.

Though slow and restrained, it’s one of Satie’s most hopeful pieces. The grounding resonance of D Major offers a quiet reassurance. Together, the music and the painting evoke a deep, gentle sense of stillness and belonging.”
