about the artist
Laura Gee is a Walthamstow-based artist whose intuitive practice explores colour, emotion, and wellbeing through drawing and painting. Her expressive works reflect on motherhood, mental health, and the quiet joy of connecting with nature. Sketching from life in local parks, Laura transforms familiar scenes into vibrant, playful compositions that celebrate presence and renewal. Her art invites the viewer to pause and breathe – to rediscover the beauty of the everyday and the grounding comfort of the natural world.
the story
In “Buying Yourself Flowers”, Laura Gee captures the colour and energy of a visit to Columbia Road flower market - a place where armfuls of blooms spill across stalls and into the street. Quick drawings made among the flowers later found their way back to the studio, where they were translated into paint and allowed to grow into this joyful composition.
Here, the focus shifts to the simple act of choosing flowers for yourself - without needing a reason or occasion. It’s a quiet reminder that love doesn’t always have to come from elsewhere - it can be something you offer yourself. Bright, generous and full of life, the painting holds that small but meaningful gesture of self-love in colour.
