about the artist

Emma is interested in the places and moments where we can find calmness and space as a balance to our busy urban lives. Growing up in the countryside but based in London for the last 25 years, she is always chasing space. Living in such a dense city, Emma finds herself drawn to creating work that has an open vista and a clear horizon. Continually inspired by nature and landscape, Emma is a natural compositor and uses drawing, photography, painting and printing within her craft of each unique artwork.

the story

In “The Dance of Time & Tide at West Wittering”, Emma Reynolds captures a fleeting moment when land, sea and sky seemed to fall perfectly into step. Created following a residency on the West Sussex coast, the painting draws on an evening when low tide stretched the shoreline wide, a passing shower cleared, and a luminous sunset unfolded with hardly another person in sight.

Emma is drawn to vast, open spaces and the quiet drama of the golden hours, when light shifts quickly and the landscape feels expansive and still at once. Here, the wet sand mirrors the sky, holding soft reflections of colour as the tide slowly turns. The result is a calm, atmospheric work that lingers on that rare sense of alignment - when time, tide and light appear to move together.
