about the artist

A South London based artist focusing on Lino-printing, Ellen has cultivated an intimate and therapeutic creative practice which asks us as viewers to explore the beauty of stillness. Originally from California, Ellen studied her Bachelor of Art History in Rome and has taken inspiration from Japanese Ukiyo-e Printmaking, Greek and Roman pottery and Renaissance art. Her serene, restrained and thoughtful artworks have arisen from an exploration of self as she searches for a sense of home in her own being.

the story

‘I speak to fill the void, but I wish I didn’t. I speak to assert my presence but I’d rather fill the room with quiet strength. I aspire to have the steadiness to speak only truth, to not use speech erratically and without aim, but only with sincerity and for the purpose of honest connection and understanding.’

Ellen’s linocuts are rooted in introversion, solitude, and a lifelong search for inner stillness. Her work captures figures in quiet, contemplative poses where time seems to stretch and soften. Though her images are deeply personal – often drawn from her own body – they speak to something universal – the ongoing search for peace, wholeness, and a sense of home within ourselves. Through simple forms and soft, thoughtful compositions, Ellen shows how our inner lives are shaped not by dramatic turning points but by the small, reflective moments that accumulate over time.
