the artist
Rachel Barber is an artist whose work is deeply rooted in the natural world, painting and printmaking from her Cheshire studio in the North West of England. Her practice grows from time spent walking through her local landscapes, including the Peak District National Park and surrounding countryside, where she observes shifting colour, light and atmosphere as the seasons turn. These lived impressions become the foundation of her work, guiding the tones, moods and gestures that shape each piece.
the story
Rachel’s Hedgerow Series of works is guided by quiet richness of autumn. As the season deepens, she finds inspiration in the fading blooms, seed heads, and textured grasses that line the edges of fields and paths – forms that hold both beauty and a subtle reminder of time passing. These autumn flowers, with their muted tones and delicate structures, become vessels of memory and symbolism, echoing the fleeting transitions between seasons.
