about the artist

johanna is a London based artist who explores contemporary portraiture and the female gaze. her large scale original works are created by pouring layers of diluted oil paint on a flat canvas in a series of translucent and fluid layers, rarely using a paintbrush. In this way the process is spontaneous and unpredictable - holding tension between the controlled and the uncontrolled, representation and abstraction.

about the artwork

the original piece was created specially for the artsnug exhibition ‘when i have wings to fly’ which celebrates the life of frida kahlo. this print has been hand embellished by the artist with gold leaf and paint. the image is 58 x 76 cm and is sold floated and raised in a bespoke contemporary box frame. the framed size is 70 x 89 cm.
