the artist

london-based gavin dobson is first and foremost a passionate storyteller. inspired by narrative and with a keen desire to take the viewer on a journey - he creates images which exude positivity and energy. gavin enjoys the immediacy, rawness, fluidity and texture of paint on canvas, allowing this expressive approach to imbue his subjects with life and movement. he captures this well in screen-printing – retaining the painterly approach by embracing drips, brushstrokes and ‘imperfections’. these finished screen-prints act as snapshots, capturing a moment and inviting the viewer to use their imagination.

the story

this embellished miniature screen print pays homage to mirth, marvel and maud - a cocktail bar which graced the historic emd cinema in walthamstow for a fleeting but special period of time. these glittering cocktails evoke a sense of fun, mischief and whimsy – taking us back to this buzzing bar and the array of treasure within. we look back to a joyful chapter in the history of this iconic building – about to become the new soho theatre.

about the artwork

this is a limited edition of 100 5-layer hand silk screen print, measuring 21 x 14.8 cm. the artwork is hand embellished with glitter and gold leaf and is sold mounted to fit a 24 x 30 cm frame. or mounted and framed in a contemporary slim gold aluminium frame, measuring 26 x 32 cm.
