Sarah is a local Hackney based artist inspired by her walks around the Hackney and Walthamstow Marshes. Her paintings document paths taken and colours emerging over the changing seasons. Balancing fine painterly detail with loose gestural mark-making, Sarah enjoys exaggerating her colour palette and infusing her source images with vibrancy and energy - bringing a fresh approach to contemporary landscape painting.

Bramble Pastels is an expressive exploration of dense, tangled foliage, brought to life through the soft, textured layers of chalk pastel. Amid the thicket, rich, plump berries emerge that are ripe and inviting, like forbidden fruits nestled within nature’s maze. The leaves, rendered in muted pastel creams, deviate from natural hues yet feel uncannily real, capturing the essence rather than the exactness of tone. Through abstraction and texture, Sarah Barrett transforms an ordinary bramble into a vivid, sensory experience.
