the artist

Sarah is a local Hackney based artist inspired by her walks around the Hackney and Walthamstow Marshes. Her paintings document paths taken and colours emerging over the changing seasons. Balancing fine painterly detail with loose gestural mark-making, Sarah enjoys exaggerating her colour palette and infusing her source images with vibrancy and energy - bringing a fresh approach to contemporary landscape painting.

the story

Shapes form the heart of this piece. Rather than outlining each edge, Sarah subtly shifts colour and tone to suggest form, letting the viewer’s eye do the work. At the centre, deep wine and rich burgundy leaves twist and stretch across the canvas, commanding attention. Moody and expressive, this work captures the raw, vivid beauty of urban foliage where nature carves out space in the city with quiet intensity.
