the artist
Sarah is a local Hackney based artist inspired by her walks around the Hackney and Walthamstow Marshes. Her paintings document paths taken and colours emerging over the changing seasons. Balancing fine painterly detail with loose gestural mark-making, Sarah enjoys exaggerating her colour palette and infusing her source images with vibrancy and energy - bringing a fresh approach to contemporary landscape painting.
the story
One of Sarah’s happy places is Walthamstow Wetlands, where she returns to time and again for inspiration and peace.
In this original painting, she invites us to join her at one of her favourite benches overlooking Reservoir One. The largest of the Wetlands’ ten reservoirs, Reservoir One is a broad expanse of water that mirrors the ever-changing sky and is bordered by dense pockets of woodland and reed beds. Sarah captures a moment of quiet stillness here, where vibrant greens from surrounding trees and foliage spill into the cool greys and blues of the water and sky. As we take in the view, waterlilies float gently on the surface, tall trees stretch into the sky, and if we listen closely, we can almost hear birds calling from the branches above.
