the artist

Sarah is a local Hackney based artist inspired by her walks around the Hackney and Walthamstow Marshes. Her paintings document paths taken and colours emerging over the changing seasons. Balancing fine painterly detail with loose gestural mark-making, Sarah enjoys exaggerating her colour palette and infusing her source images with vibrancy and energy - bringing a fresh approach to contemporary landscape painting.

the story

Working with perspective, Sarah draws our gaze through a break in the autumn canopy along the riverbank, revealing the dark, reflective waters of the Lea below. The soft pastel skies above contrast with the moody, tangled roots that twist upward from the river’s edge; unruly, alive and searching for light. As sunlight filters through the thinning foliage, it catches on leaves and branches, illuminating true amber and green tones. Every stem, every leaf, seems to lean toward the clearing, as if drawn by the quiet magic of the Lea.
