the artist
Clare’s intricate and illustrative limited-edition screen prints and original works on paper demonstrate an incredibly skilful use of line and pattern, as well as her love for representation and narrative. Clare is passionate about botanical art as well as cityscapes and architectural forms. With a background in textile design, she carefully balances design, pattern and colour in each work to create a harmonious contemporary work which connects to a particular place, city, building or vignette of the natural world.
the story
In ‘Eucalyptus Tree, Lloyd Park Study I and II’ Clare revisits a familiar presence in Lloyd Park – the great eucalyptus that once stood near the water, blown down in last year’s storm. Rather than depicting loss, Clare chooses to imagine the tree in full, living colour – soft pastels and layered foliage surrounding it. The scene becomes both memory and tribute, a place the eye can return to even when the landscape has changed. In her hands, the eucalyptus remains rooted in the park’s story, continuing to offer calm, light and quiet beauty to those who loved it.
