about the artist
Sarah Needham is a Walthamstow-based abstract artist whose vibrant mixed-media works celebrate colour, movement, and design. Drawing inspiration from the urban landscape and organic forms, she creates dynamic compositions that merge structured marks with fluid shapes. Her use of neon hues and rhythmic linework reflects Walthamstow’s rich heritage of pattern and textile design. Sarah’s paintings are joyous explorations of energy and contrast – a visual celebration of the borough’s ever-changing architecture and its spirit of creativity and renewal.
the story
‘Violet Arc’ reflects the creative pulse of Walthamstow. Sarah draws inspiration from the arches of railway bridges, the rhythm of urban nightlife, and the area’s deep-rooted relationship with pattern and design. Inner-city energy is transformed into an abstract visual language through contemporary mark-making and a bright, considered palette. The result is a work that captures both movement and structure – a vivid reflection of Walthamstow’s dynamic spirit.
