the artist
Clare’s intricate and illustrative limited-edition screen prints and original works on paper demonstrate an incredibly skilful use of line and pattern, as well as her love for representation and narrative. Clare is passionate about botanical art as well as cityscapes and architectural forms. With a background in textile design, she carefully balances design, pattern and colour in each work to create a harmonious contemporary work which connects to a particular place, city, building or vignette of the natural world.
the sound
"’Above the Treetops’ is inspired by the parks I often run through. Running, for me, is more than just exercise - it’s a space to think, to reflect, and to process ideas that have been quietly brewing in the background. It’s often where the seed of a new piece is planted.
The idea for ‘Above the Treetops’ came during one such moment. I was jogging past a small cluster of trees - unremarkable at first glance - but what caught my eye was the sky above them: wide, open, and filled with light. It gave me a sudden sense of calm and clarity, a reminder to pause and just be. That fleeting feeling of freedom became the core of the work.
The piece was later selected for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition 2024, which gave its quiet beginnings even more meaning. For the soundtrack, I chose Daft Punk’s ‘Get Lucky’ - not only because they’re my go-to artists for running, but because the track is pure fun and energy. It felt like the perfect match.” Clare Halifax
