the artist
Anna’s minimalist mark-making is like poetry – each brushstroke and splash of paint carefully considered and deliberate – laden with meaning and purpose. A London-based artist, she most often works with water-based medias on paper, raw canvas and wood – the organic properties of these materials shining through. Transformation and Japanese aesthetics are key areas of focus, with influences from the zen philosophy ‘Ma’ and Shibumi principles.
the sound
Anna says: “While working on the Goldfinch series, Max Richter’s music - especially ‘Psychogeography’ - was a constant companion on my playlist. The term ‘psychogeography’ refers to how our surroundings and environments - especially urban spaces - shape our emotions, behaviours, and thoughts. This felt particularly fitting given the curious little wildlife-human encounter I experienced during lockdown, when a little goldfinch somehow flew into our bathroom, becoming a source of inspiration for a whole new collection of work.”
