the artist
Bristol based printmaker, Anna Harley’s eye-catching landscape prints have a stark freshness and graphic beauty. Her influences are varied and reflect her nomadic childhood, an arts and craft background and connections to places like Scandinavia and Japan. Each print-making journey is one of discovery, and she enjoys letting the process lead the artwork – embracing happy accidents and unexpected results along the way.
the sound
Anna says: “’Blue Moon’ shares its title with the classic song, and while the print isn’t a direct visualisation of the lyrics, it draws on the same sense of quiet longing and stillness. The print is built in layers: shadowy hills recede into the background, while bare copper trees stand in sharp contrast against silvery blue tones. The cool palette is interrupted only by the warmth of the trees, catching the eye much like a solitary figure under moonlight.
In the song, the “blue moon” is a moment of rare clarity or connection - a shift from loneliness to presence. That idea of something rare and quiet arriving unannounced echoes in the print. The moon itself may not dominate the scene, but its light defines everything: softening distance, sharpening outlines, and colouring the atmosphere. The trees, though leafless, are not lifeless - they hold their ground in a kind of quiet watchfulness.
‘Blue Moon’ is less about narrative and more about mood: a suspended, luminous moment where something unspoken might be waiting in the stillness.”
