the artist

Victoria gets much of her inspiration from the surrounding countryside in Dorset and the coast of Cornwall. Whether it’s waking up on the windswept, wild coastline or walking the dog along a winding, overgrown path, she is constantly catching up with nature’s changes.

When she embarks on a painting, Victoria draws upon the emotions of the day — the energy, temperature, time of day, and the bustle of wildlife and birdsong. Using a process-led approach and constantly manipulating the paint, she works intuitively until a composition, colour, or mark emerges and sparks a moment of excitement. Welcoming mistakes, she feels most invigorated when a painting takes an unexpected turn — becoming more compelling through the element of the unknown.

the sound

Victoria says: "I love working intuitively, layering colours without a fixed destination in mind. For me, the process itself holds more meaning than the final outcome. I want the viewer to fully absorb the colour - to feel it, not just see it.

Music plays an essential role in the process beginning a painting - especially on days when inspiration doesn’t come naturally. I have a specific playlist I turn to when I begin. The tracks are mostly instrumental and atmospheric, each one taking me on a subtle journey.

One memorable sonic moment while painting ‘Denim Dusk’ was Aphex Twin’s ‘Ageispolis’. It’s meditative, yet charged with a quiet, humming energy - much like the painting itself."
