the artist
Rennie Pilgrem is largely self-taught artist. He spent 25 years as a recording artist and producer and travelling the world as a DJ. A few years ago he switched from the audio to the visual and this is what he concentrates on now. His main areas of work are printmaking, including traditional methods like monoprints, wood block and lino prints.
the sound
Renie says: “I’ve been creating dance music for 25 years, and I approach visual art much the same way. It all starts with an idea, then evolves by layering - just like adding instruments to a track.
The title of this piece comes from MC slang for record decks. I made a collage featuring a Technics deck - an iconic staple in every club back in the day - alongside a copy of my own track ‘A Place Called Acid’, which I inked and ran through a printing press.”
