about the artist
Emma is interested in the places and moments where we can find calmness and space as a balance to our busy urban lives. Growing up in the countryside but based in London for the last 25 years, she is always chasing space. Living in such a dense city, Emma finds herself drawn to creating work that has an open vista and a clear horizon. Continually inspired by nature and landscape, Emma is a natural compositor and uses drawing, photography, painting and printing within her craft of each unique artwork.
the story
Emma captures the quiet magic of Hollow Ponds – that sense of stepping just beyond the city and finding a place that breathes at a gentler pace. Her print draws on a midsummer afternoon when the water shimmered in greens and turquoises and the trees gathered their fullness overhead. In the distance, a small group of people are feeding the swans, a familiar and tender ritual here, shared by neighbours, families, anyone who pauses long enough to watch.
