the artist
Kath Leone is a London-based screenprint artist and textile designer whose imaginative works draw on nature’s intricacies and her own synaesthetic perception of colour. Originally from Cape Town, she brings a vivid sense of rhythm and glow to her compositions, blending botanical forms with surreal, otherworldly hues. Exploring Waltham Forest’s hidden green spaces, Kath finds endless wonder in the minute details of life. Her prints offer windows into parallel worlds – delicate, radiant studies of how colour, form, and feeling intertwine.
the story
Hand-printed onto hand-painted Saunders Waterford paper, ’Peacock Butterfly’ is an intricate eight-layer screenprint celebrating one of the British Isles’ most colourful and abundant species. Among the first butterflies to appear in early spring, they are often seen across Walthamstow Marshes – a joyful sight against the new season’s light. Their vivid wings, patterned like jewels, catch the sun as they feed on thistle, bluebell, cuckooflower, dandelion, and buddleia. Kath’s print captures both their beauty and their fleeting presence – a tribute to nature’s colour and renewal.
