the artist

Anna’s minimalist mark-making is like poetry – each brushstroke and splash of paint carefully considered and deliberate – laden with meaning and purpose. A London-based artist, she most often works with water-based medias on paper, raw canvas and wood – the organic properties of these materials shining through. Transformation and Japanese aesthetics are key areas of focus, with influences from the zen philosophy ‘Ma’ and Shibumi principles.

Anna says: “I found myself returning again and again to Frank Smith’s ‘Porch With a View’ during my trip to Arizona last year. There’s something about the mood it creates - warm, open, and quietly reflective - that perfectly matches the feeling I’ve tried to capture in ‘Arizona XVII’. It places you on an imaginary porch with the best view in the state: a wide, endless horizon with just a hint of mountains in the distance. The music and the painting share that same sense of stillness and space - like taking a deep breath and soaking it all in.”

This is an original watercolour, acrylic, oil pastel and graphite painting on paper, framed float mounted in a white solid wood frame behind low-reflect glass, measuring 83.5 x 63.5 cm.
