the artist
Rachel’s work draws inspiration from both land and seascapes. She is always seeking to capture the atmosphere she experiences while walking through the hills of the Peak District or along the windswept beaches of the Llŷn Peninsula in North Wales. Having spent countless hours in these landscapes, they remain a constant and deeply personal source of inspiration in her practice.
the sound
Rachel says: “There’s something about Orbital’s ‘Belfast’ that stays with you - a dreamy, echoing rhythm that seems to drift through space and memory. Whenever I listen to it, I picture myself out on the paths of the Peak District, where I often go walking, the sun low in the sky and everything touched by that soft, hazy dusk light.
That’s the feeling I wanted to capture in ‘Peak Summer II’ - the warmth of the light as it falls across the hills, the calm stillness of the land in those quiet, golden hours. It’s a landscape I know well and return to often, and like the music, it always offers a sense of space, reflection, and calm.”
