the artist
Rachel’s work draws inspiration from both land and seascapes. She is always seeking to capture the atmosphere she experiences while walking through the hills of the Peak District or along the windswept beaches of the Llŷn Peninsula in North Wales. Having spent countless hours in these landscapes, they remain a constant and deeply personal source of inspiration in her practice.
the sound
Rachel says: “Four Tet’s ‘Into Dust (Still Falling)’ has this dreamy, echoing flow that always makes me imagine walking through wide, open summer landscapes. It’s more than just a sound - it feels like a memory you can step into. That’s the atmosphere I tried to capture in ‘Peak Summer I’ - the soft light drifting over the hills of the Peak District, not far from where I live.
I often walk there in the evenings, when the sun is low and the light turns almost watery, casting everything in a quiet, golden haze. There’s a stillness in those moments that I find deeply calming, and somehow the music echoes that same feeling.”
