the artist

Bristol based printmaker, Anna Harley’s eye-catching landscape prints have a stark freshness and graphic beauty. Her influences are varied and reflect her nomadic childhood, an arts and craft background and connections to places like Scandinavia and Japan. Each print-making journey is one of discovery, and she enjoys letting the process lead the artwork – embracing happy accidents and unexpected results along the way.

the sound

Anna says: “‘Starry Night’ is both a visual and emotional response to Don McLean’s song ‘Vincent’ - a lyrical tribute to the life and work of Vincent van Gogh. The song’s gentle, melancholic tone and deep compassion for the misunderstood artist resonated with me profoundly, and I wanted to express that feeling through my own visual language.

Van Gogh’s ‘The Starry Night’ has long captivated me - not just for its swirling, expressive skies, but for its raw emotional honesty. My print draws from that spirit, reinterpreting the night sky with layers of pattern and texture that echo the movement and rhythm found in both the painting and the song. The stars in my print shimmer with a quiet energy, not simply as celestial bodies, but as symbols of hope, creativity, and isolation - just as McLean’s lyrics describe.”
