the artist
Tyrone D’Souza is a lifelong Walthamstow artist whose work spans graphite drawing, stencil, and acrylic painting. Deeply connected to his community, he balances his artistic practice with his role in education, supporting young people’s mental health. This duality informs his art – expressive, empathetic, and rooted in how images can move and heal. His pieces explore emotion through contrast and composition, offering a personal reflection on growth and resilience. For Tyrone, creativity is both an act of self-care and a way of giving back.
the story
Tyrone was inspired by the many post-mounted road signs in Walthamstow that have been quietly ‘repurposed’ by locals – this one, turned into an ashtray. The sleeping foxes embody the spirit and colour of the area; their warm brown-orange tones echo both the natural and creative character of Walthamstow. The extracted colour grid reveals how those hues resonate beyond the image itself, while the interplay between graphite and acrylic strengthens the work’s tension between the everyday and the symbolic. The cropped ‘N’ nods to Walthamstow’s original postcode – NE.
